While Cerberus Sleeps A Novel eBook Leah Noel Sims

This is the kind of book that helps you to understand what it feels like to have a fully alive heart in a world of brutality and conflict. It's not just a thrilling page turner (I read the whole thing in one day) it's full of themes that we all struggle with as we watch our world either falling apart or growing more healthy every day. How do we respond with love when our hearts are filled with fear and we are tempted to take revenge? Is there a way through our plight that doesn't drag us into the violence of the very systems from which we seek to free ourselves? What's wrong with remaining hidden and passive in the face of the suffering and pain we see? Though the setting is a dark futuristic dystopia, so many of the characters and scenes reach a level of intimacy and wholesomeness that are needed to give a real sense of something that stands against the darkness to bring out the love that is in our hearts. Overall, this book is poised to speak to a world that desires to wake up from the nightmare of human history and find a way of Life that transcends the typical violent solutions to violent problems. Though it is futuristic fiction, it is far more relevant to our present world than one might expect.

Stylistically, I found the writing to be cinematic (I could see it like a movie unfolding) and the characters to be well drawn and breathing with a life of their own. The plot is strategically constructed and the denouement satisfying. (Can you say sequel?) Though the book charts its own unique territory, I found myself pleasantly reminded of Jonathan Swift (Gulliver's Travels), Madeline L'Engle, Suzanne Collins (the Hunger Games), Brave New World and 1984, even movies like The Matrix and many other classics (Rousseau!) as I read. It's definitely a wonderful read for true lovers of books.

While Cerberus Sleeps A Novel eBook Leah Noel Sims Reviews

I just finished reading While Cerberus Sleeps and most definitely recommend it. The story covers such a wide range of elements, base human nature confronted by virtue, control confronted by freedom, self-protection confronted by love, and it is all wrapped up in a compelling and suspenseful story. The context is in the future but yet, in so many ways, it could be and is…today. My feelings about this book are evolving as I continue to think on it; While Cerberus Sleeps stays with you long after you finish the read. I found it to be immeasurably entertaining and engaging. What a great book!
"While Cerberus Sleeps" makes you think! The story is set in the distant future where government puts on a happy face for its people, but it's not fooling everyone. Throughout the novel, the protagonist Mila explores what can happen when people get too comfortable overlooking important shifts in government. It hits very close to home.

The characters have well-defined voices and personalities that feel genuine, so it's easy to become invested very quickly. Many novels in this genre can read stilted or cut and dry, but the prose is beautifully crafted in and of itself. It's for those reasons that I give it five stars and say it's worth a read even if you're not typically into the dystopian future novels a-la "1984" and "Brave New World." This is special.
An intelligent uplifting story set in a dystopian version of the world we know. It is not hard to imagine this world in the near future if certain negative traits of the powerful continue and the media keeps moving further from its original purpose. There is much to learn here. Yet, far from being a depressing view of that world, the book is enjoyable to read and full of hope due to the heroine’s unstoppable determination to make things better. Mila is a character we all wish we were more like, full of faith in herself despite circumstances that seem insurmountable and full of faith in humanity despite the shortcomings of individuals. Even during the darkest moments of the story, I couldn’t put the book down because Leah is a master of the suspense that keeps you wanting to know what happens next. Her well-crafted tale is filled with unexpected turns and constant insights that were a pleasure to read and easy to relate to.
There are some similarities to the Divergent series which I also enjoyed.
It misses 5 stars mainly for technical reasons, which is a shame because the editorial staff that most published authors have available would have taken care of the technical issues. I look forward to the next book and hopefully many more.
A corrupt dystopian future, a rebel group fighting for change and a clandestine organization cultivating an underground society where enlightenment is valued. Enter Mila Ray – a young woman prepared to fight for a free society. This despite being pursued by a vicious government operative with an unnatural fixation on her.

There’s also a refreshing love story subplot between Mila and an agent with the rebel group along with some nice sci-fi touches.

But what I found most interesting as a reader was Mila’s determination to give people a voice in their government. Never satisfied with easy answers from the rebels or the underground group, Mila is the one who pushes for justice, despite her own fears and self-doubt.

This is a strong debut novel that focuses on a young woman with the guts to fight for what is right in the face of overwhelming odds.

We can only hope there are some Milas to fight for our freedom if our country should descend into such demagoguery.
